Head of Integrated Grain Operations

(Agriculture Manager – Grain Production)

Position Title: Head of Integrated Grain Operations

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Head of Integrated Grain Operations to lead all aspects of grain production, including crop planning, planting, fertility management, crop protection, harvest logistics, storage, and post?harvest handling. This role drives operational efficiency, sustainable practices, and high-yield outcomes across our grain acres while leading and developing the team responsible for day?to?day execution.

Key ResponsibilitiesCrop Planning & Production

  • Develop annual grain production plans for wheat, corn, sorghum, barley, and other row crops.
  • Establish seeding rates, hybrid/variety selections, and planting timelines based on field conditions and yield goals.
  • Manage soil fertility programs including sampling, nutrient recommendations, and fertilizer applications.
  • Scout fields to monitor crop health, soil moisture, pest pressure, and emerging issues.
  • Coordinate and execute crop protection plans.

Harvest & Post?Harvest Management

  • Oversee harvest operations including combine crews, grain cart operations, and trucking logistics.
  • Manage grain drying, aeration, and quality control to maintain stored grain integrity.
  • Ensure accurate yield data tracking and reporting.
  • Coordinate grain storage, bin management, and delivery scheduling.

Equipment & Operational Oversight

  • Direct operation, maintenance, and repair of combines, tractors, sprayers, and tillage implements.
  • Develop preventative maintenance programs for harvest and grain?handling systems.
  • Oversee supply inventories including seed, fertilizer, crop protection products, and equipment parts.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and supervise full-time and seasonal crew members.
  • Assign responsibilities, manage labor allocation, and optimize daily workflows.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.

Compliance, Reporting & Strategy

  • Ensure all operations meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Analyze yield and cost metrics to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning involving acreage, equipment, and technology upgrades.

QualificationsRequired

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or equivalent grain experience.
  • 1-2+ years supervising or managing grain crop operations.
  • Strong understanding of grain production systems, including planting, fertility, crop protection, dryland/irrigated management, and harvesting.
  • Proficiency with modern farm machinery and grain-handling equipment.

Preferred

  • Experience in High Plains grain systems (wheat, corn, sorghum, etc.).
  • Familiarity with precision ag tools such as GPS guidance, variable-rate technology, and yield mapping.
  • Commercial Applicator License or related certification.
