FOUNDER’S MESSAGE

“I started my first recruiting company back in 2003 from a tiny 700-sq foot condo in Boston. I didn’t know the first thing that went into starting a business – never mind one that specialized in providing contract labor. I didn’t have the slightest clue as to what went into employment – from the cost of payroll to the rules and regulations which vary from state to state. I didn’t know that each state required a physical presence to do business in their jurisdiction. I had no idea that you had to register to do business in each prior to making a placement, obtain workers compensation insurance for that location, file an annual report and then pay taxes to that state at the end of each year. I was either naïve to the intricacies of payroll, and doing business in each state, or just plain oblivious.
Once I was finally able to build this infrastructure, I still had to find an affordable health plan as well as liability and workers compensation insurance. I needed a trusted accountant, a solid bookkeeper, retirement specialists, and a lawyer to draft countless required legal documents for both external contractors and internal employees. I needed a company to provide IT support, someone to produce marketing materials. I had to find the right database/ATS, write and then build a website and tie the two together. I needed to find a reliable partner to conduct background checks and drug testing based on the needs of my clients.
Wait, did I mention that I still needed to find financing and FUND my entire payroll….and then collect my receivables in a timely fashion before I ran out of money?!
Knowing what I know now, I would have given up a small percentage of my profit and purchase a franchise rather than start my own business. There was just too much that went into building the infrastructure – as well as a considerable amount of stress and anxiety. To have this already set up is priceless – not to mention having someone proven to help guide each franchise through growing their business.

I’ve vetted the vendors and have constantly negotiated better rates. Franchisees are the beneficiaries of this tireless work as I’m literally handing each a “business in a box” that took me over two decades to build.
