Position Summary

Motivera Search Group is seeking an experienced Shop Mechanic for a leading civil construction company. This role is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of heavy construction equipment used in earthwork, site development, utility construction, and heavy civil projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and heavy equipment repair. Candidates should be comfortable utilizing electronic diagnostic software (“diesel laptops”) and possess their own tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy construction equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot diesel engine, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain issues.
  • Utilize OEM diagnostic software and diesel laptops to identify and resolve equipment faults.
  • Repair and maintain equipment including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, skid steers, compactors, and haul trucks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Inspect equipment for safety, operational readiness, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain detailed service records and repair documentation.
  • Coordinate with field personnel and equipment managers regarding repair priorities.
  • Order and track parts as needed to complete repairs efficiently.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
  • Respond to occasional field service calls when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of heavy equipment mechanic experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines and diesel-powered construction equipment.
  • Experience using OEM diagnostic software and diesel laptops for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, fuel, air, and cooling systems.
  • Must possess a comprehensive set of mechanic tools required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in heavy civil, earthwork, utility, or site development construction environments.
  • Manufacturer certifications from Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Volvo, Case, or similar equipment manufacturers.
  • CDL license is a plus.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with fleet maintenance software and work order systems.

Physical Requirements
